Jenga Bizna Mtaani – Youth Empowerment Program
(KES 5 Million)

I&M Foundation collaborated with the Jonathan Jackson Foundation on the Jenga Bizna Mtaani project, designed to empower youth and women group businesses in the informal settlements of Kayole, Korogocho, Kibera, Kariobangi and Kawangware by providing essential resources. The goal was to facilitate the establishment of sustainable avenues for income generation.

The comprehensive program is dedicated to fostering the growth of both individual and group owned enterprises. It achieves this by providing group members with essential training in entrepreneurial best practices, with a particular emphasis on income generation for long-term job creation and sustainability.

The allocation of resources and materials has yielded significant outcomes, including the generation of 37 new jobs within the informal sector. Additionally, 30 individuals experiencing homelessness were afforded the opportunity to secure a livelihood. Three youth groups enhanced their capabilities to deliver sustainable waste management solutions in their communities, simultaneously fostering income generation using the six handcarts donated to them.

Moreover, three caregivers of children living with cerebral palsy were able to participate in income generation from vending trolleys donated. Two businesses were revived from the impact of COVID-19 through additional stock. Four women benefited from a donation of 2.5 tons of onions. Overall, 191 individuals were beneficiaries of the partnership.
